Dr Swan is a highly qualified and experienced medical professional with a diverse background. Having served in the Army for over 20 years, he has specialized in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM), focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal and sports injuries. He completed his SEM Specialty Training and was registered with the General Medical Council in January 2011.

For eight years, Dr Swan worked at the Ministry of Defence Rehabilitation Centre, DMCR Headley Court, where he served as the Consultant Lead for Spinal Rehabilitation, Lower Limb Rehabilitation Team, and the Tri-Services ‘Elite Sports Injuries’ Clinic. Emphasizing a multi-disciplinary team approach, he collaborates with patients and physical therapy teams to create customized rehabilitation plans, aiming for holistic recovery and a return to pre-injury activity levels.

Tim’s extensive involvement in elite sports includes supporting athletes at the London 2012 Olympics in the Athlete Village Polyclinic and working with various sports such as rugby, football, golf, athletics, biathlon, and disabled skiing. He has served as the Team Doctor for multiple England teams, including U16s, U18s, Students, Counties U20s RFU, Senior England Men’s Hockey, and England Lions (ECB) Teams.

Tim holds qualifications in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound, actively contributing to the teaching faculty at the Centre for Ultrasound Studies, Bournemouth University. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine Ireland (FFSEM [Ire]) and has been involved in leadership roles on the FSEM [UK] Council, including serving as the Chair of the Faculty Examination Committee for the SEM Diploma/Membership Examinations. In his role as Chair of the Examination Committee of the UK faculty, he modified their Diploma Examination into a Membership of the FSEM, thus aligning with all the Royal Medical Colleges.

His areas of interest span a wide range of sports injuries, from running and cycling to rugby and football, along with expertise in diagnostic ultrasound scans, ultrasound-guided injections, and extracorporeal shockwave treatment. Tim’s commitment to education is evident through his participation in scientific meetings and providing educational support to various organizations.
