The Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) curriculum aims to produce doctors and allied healthcare practitioners in supporting two major healthcare areas requiring urgent attention.
Firstly, the need to establish a countrywide competence in the knowledge base and clinical skills to support comprehensive musculoskeletal (MSK) services.
Secondly, the requirement to prescribe ‘Exercise as Medicine’ to promote physical activity [PA] throughout the population – pre-school, school-aged children, adults, those with disabilities and the elderly. In particular, those individuals with underlying co-morbidities and a chronic disease burden.
This SEM MSc will provide an in-depth understanding of exercise medicine’s practical applications in chronic disease states at an individual and population level.
